About the Institute

History
Located in Dorchester County, Maryland, the Community Informatics Institute (CII) was incorporated in 2023 and received federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status shortly after. In 2024, CII was granted a rare FCC construction permit for a low power FM radio (LPFM) station for Vienna, Maryland. In 2025, CII launched the "Dorchester Connect" initiative . CII's focus in 2026 is to get WVCI-LP Vienna on the air before the FCC deadline of Feb. 7, 2027.

Purpose
CII facilitates positive transformation through community informatics (the use of data, information, communication, and technology to enhance communities), prioritizing challenges in rural or otherwise disadvantaged areas.
