About the Institute

History and Impact

Community Informatics Institute (CII) was founded in 2023 and received 501(c)(3) status in 2024. We develop community information systems that strengthen civic engagement, support access to resources, and help achieve local resilience.

Our current projects include:

DorchesterConnect.com — a countywide civic information network

ViennaRadio.com — a hyperlocal community radio and information hub

These platforms serve residents, nonprofits, and local

governments in Vienna and Dorchester County, Maryland.

Purpose

CII facilitates positive transformation through community informatics (the use of data, information, communication, and technology to enhance communities), prioritizing challenges in rural or otherwise disadvantaged areas.
